Choosing a setting
Santorini has four very different weddings in it.
Almost every couple arrives asking for “the caldera view”. It is a beautiful instinct, and sometimes it is the right one — but the island offers four distinct kinds of day, and the one that suits you usually depends less on the photograph than on your guest list.
The caldera rim
Imerovigli, Oia, Fira and Firostefani. The view Santorini is famous for, sunset directly in front of you, and a ceremony that needs almost no decoration.
- Best for smaller groups — most terraces are genuinely limited in size
- Books earliest, and prices accordingly
- Steps and level changes are common; worth checking if guests have limited mobility
- Exposed to the meltemi wind, particularly July and August
Caves & inland villages
Pyrgos, Megalochori, Emporio and the old cave houses cut into the rock. Cooler, sheltered, and far quieter than the rim.
- Wind is rarely a problem — the most reliable choice in high summer
- Candlelight and stone do most of the design work for you
- Music can usually run later than on the rim
- Better value for the same level of production
The beaches
Perissa, Perivolos, Vlychada and the black volcanic sand of the south. Relaxed, barefoot, and easy for larger groups.

Private villas & estates
A house taken exclusively for the week, with the wedding in its own grounds. Complete privacy and complete control.
- Everything is brought in — kitchen, power, furniture, bathrooms
- Costs more to produce, but the day is entirely yours
- Works beautifully when the closest guests stay on site
- Needs the longest lead time of any option
Before you commit
What we would want you to ask.
A venue photograph tells you almost nothing about how a wedding day will actually run there. These are the questions we ask on your behalf at every site visit.
Capacity, honestly
A terrace that seats sixty for dinner may only hold forty once you add a dance floor, a band and a bar. We work backwards from the format of your evening, not the venue’s headline number.
Sound and curfew
Most of the island has limits on amplified music, and they vary village by village. It is the single most common unpleasant surprise for couples who booked without asking — so we ask first, in writing.
Wind and the wet-weather plan
The meltemi blows hardest in July and August, and it will decide whether candles, drapes and a light structure are realistic. Every venue we recommend has a costed alternative plan attached before you sign anything.
Access for guests and suppliers
How far from the nearest road, how many steps, whether a truck can reach it, and where guests are set down. Older relatives and heavy production equipment have the same needs here.
Exclusivity
Whether you have the whole property or share it with hotel guests, and until what time. Worth knowing before your first dance shares a terrace with someone’s dinner.
The legal side
Civil ceremonies in Greece require documents prepared in advance and, for many nationalities, translation and apostille. Religious ceremonies have their own requirements and their own calendar. We manage the paperwork — but the venue and date affect it, so it belongs in this conversation.

When the island is at its best.
Which months work best for a wedding?
May, early June, late September and October are our favourites: warm but not punishing, the light is softer, the island is calmer and almost everything costs less. Late June to early September is spectacular and busy — expect heat in the middle of the day, strong wind on the rim, and venues that were booked a long time ago. April and late October are lovely and genuinely unpredictable.
What time should the ceremony be?
On the caldera we usually place the ceremony ninety minutes to two hours before sunset, so that the vows happen in good light and the photographs after them happen in extraordinary light. On the beaches and inland the calculation is different because the sun sets behind you — we work it out from your exact date, since sunset moves by more than an hour and a half across the season.
How many venues should we look at?
Three, chosen well. We would rather send you a shortlist we genuinely believe fits your guest count, budget and format than a catalogue of forty. If you are able to visit, we will arrange the site visits and come with you.
Do we have to use one of your venues?
No. Love Cave and Madame Sousou are ours, which means faster answers and more of the day handled in-house — and we say so plainly. But we plan weddings all over Santorini, and if the right setting for you belongs to someone else, that is where we will take you.
